Organizations to research

CT Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

A statewide network offering no‑cost advising, including help accessing capital, linking clients to lenders, preparing loan/financing packages, and offering educational resources. They also connect businesses to technical assistance and other funding partners.

CT Small Business Boost Fund (DECD) 

A working capital loan program managed by the Department of Economic and Community Development. Offers loans from $5,000 to $500,000, with fixed 4.5% interest, no origination fees, and flexible 60 or 72‑month terms. Applicants receive support from community lenders and equity‑focused technical assistance.

Community Economic Development Fund (CEDF)

A nonprofit lender serving Connecticut small businesses, especially those in low‑ to‑moderate‑income communities who may not secure traditional bank financing. Offers term loans up to $250,000, commercial real estate loans up to $500,000, and lines of credit up to $250,000. Also provides business education and workshops.

Community Investment Corporation (CIC)

Community Development Companies, such as Community Investment Corporation (CIC),  partner with the SBA to deliver long-term, fixed‑rate loans aimed at major fixed asset purchases such as real estate, equipment, and facility improvements. CIC offers up to 90% financing, competitive fixed rates, and partners closely with banks such as Bankwell to support growing businesses—including minority- and women-owned firms. Women’s Business Development Council (WBDC)

The Women’s Business Development Council (WBDC) is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs across Connecticut. Since 1997, WBDC has supported women at every stage of business development by providing access to education, advising, and capital. Through one-on-one coaching, financial and business education, and statewide networking opportunities, the organization helps women launch, grow, and sustain successful businesses.A key component of WBDC’s support is direct funding. The organization administers programs such as the Equity Match Grant, which awards between $2,500 and $25,000 to qualified women-owned businesses.
